Stay: Kajane Yangloni in Ubud

Kajane Yangloni

‘I will call you, Mrs Pham?’ the young Balinese receptionist asked.

‘Cammi is fine’, I replied.

‘Oh, like we are friends’, the receptionist said breaking out into a big toothy smile.

This interaction set the scene for our stay at the tranquil and idyllic Kajane Yangloni in Ubud, Bali.

Kajane Yangloni feels like a private oasis tucked away from the hustle and bustle of central Ubud, despite it only being a 10-minute drive away from the town centre. The property is made up of a hotel and separate wooden villas that are surrounded by rice paddies and lush foliage, making you feel as though you’ve inadvertently stepped into a rural Balinese village. Fantastic amenities combined with the friendliest and most accommodating staff made this an ideal place to spend a romantic weekend in Ubud.

The villa

We opted to stay in one of the Balinese-style wooden villas  – Bale Kambang 6 – and I was giddy with excitement when we were shown where we would be staying. We were welcomed with a lovely rose petal arrangement on our romantic-looking canopy bed; and the dark wooden furniture with intricate detailing, creaking floorboards and dim lighting contributed to the rustic atmosphere of the villa. Little touches such as the provision of wide-brimmed sun hats, perfect for the scorching heat during the daytime, and the straw tote bag, which I used to put my towel and belongings in when I went for a dip in the outdoor pool, perfectly illustrated the level of care and attention provided to guests. The beautiful semi-outdoor bathroom had an impressive granite bathtub, and the natural furnishings added an eco element to the whole experience.

Even in the stillness of the night, Kajane Yangloni is alive with sound and you’ll wake up to the distinctive crow of roosters and a cacophony of animal sounds. You’ll become aware of the vast nature around you: majestic dragonflies, buzzing mosquitoes, leaping frogs and other creepy-crawlies are abundant. It really does feel like waking up in a jungle, especially when you walk outside to the front porch to an uninterrupted view of the rice terraces in the early morning light.

Staff

The hospitality and graciousness of the staff at Kajane Yangloni was second to none and there was never a ask too big or small to accommodate. Staff would come to your villa to replace the incense or to deliver meals; drivers would thank you for visiting Ubud; and the grounds workers would stop and ask you what you had been up to for the day – always with a smile on their faces.

Other properties

Kajane Yangloni also has sister property, and if you want to stay right in the centre of Ubud, there is the Kanjane Mua, which is located right on Monkey Forest Road. This proved to be useful after a day of exploration in the Ubud city centre as we were able to head to the Kanjane Mua in order to organise a shuttle service back to the Kajane Yangloni property.
