Starting with…
10. Getting lost in the sea of green
It was our first time in Ubud and despite Rob being sick and me starting to come down with a cold, we had a fantastic time venturing around the countryside, seeing the famous rice terraces and embracing Ubud’s healthy and holistic lifestyle—which is probably what we needed at that point.
9. New gold mountain
Sometimes you look back on a photo and you can’t quiet believe that you were there. This was taken during the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. I don’t remember the mountains being so golden, but alas, there it is.
8. Twirling in wineries
I had surprised Rob with a weekend getaway in Margaret River for his birthday. It was cold and rainy and the perfect weather for snuggling up next to a fireplace with a glass of fine wine and even better company.
7. The perfect shot
We had reached the highest point of the Salkantay trek at 4600 metres above sea level. I literally turned around and this is what I saw—it was a mad rush to get my camera out to capture the moment.
6. Rest and relaxation
This was only taken last week during our most recent sojourn down to the Margaret River region. The last few months have been hectic to say the least, so we spent a few lovely days away in a cottage out in the bush doing absolutely nothing. It was wonderful.
5. Always looking for the next adventure
This was taken at Kalbarri when Rob whisked me away for a surprise weekend getaway for my birthday. I always love going on road trips, exploring new places and chasing new adventures.
4. Falling in love with the colours of Arequipa
Arequipa is a photographers’ dream: vibrant-coloured walls mix with the sillar-white of the colonial-style buildings against the backdrop of dramatic volcano peaks. It was a beautiful city to explore and the Santa Cantalina Monastery was simply extraordinary.
3. Lounging around
While in Ubud, we stayed at the delightful Kajane Yangloni in a rustic wooden villa, our private oasis away from the chaos of central Ubud.

I wasn’t expecting this photo to make the list, simply because I suck at flatlays—but here you go.
1. A personal highlight
I am so, so happy that this photo is the most popular Instagram post for 2016 because it was my favourite travel moment of 2016. Climbing Huayna Picchu at Machu Picchu was in equal parts challenging and rewarding and it was worth all of the blood, sweat and tears to get to the top.
